Hugo Wolf (1860-1903)
Bio
Hugo Philipp Jacob Wolf was born in Windischgrätz, then a part of the Austrian Empire. He was prodigious but struggled in school and could not complete training at the Vienna Conservatory. His talent attracted benefactors and his compositions gained notoriety but he succumbed to syphilis and died in an asylum before his 43rd birthday.
