Charles-Marie Widor (1844-1937)
Bio
Charles-Marie-Jean-Albert Widor was born in Lyon. He studied organ building and composition under François-Joseph Fétis, the director of the Brussels Conservatoire. He worked with Saint-Saëns and Gounod before succeeding Franck as the organ professor at the Paris Conservatoire. He traveled the world playing the organ and is on the short list of the instrument's most proficient composers.
