Ottorino Respighi (1879-1936)


Bio

Respighi was born in Bologna and had an enormous aptitude for various instruments. He studied violin and viola at the Liceo Musicale di Bologna and then played with the Russian Imperial Theater in Saint Petersburg. He met and studied with Rimsky-Korsakov and Max Bruch before briefly joining the Lega dei Cinque with Pizzetti, Malipiero, Bastianelli, and Bossi. He taught in Rome and worked with Casella becoming an internationally renowned composer.
