Bedřich Smetana (1824-1884)
Bio
Bedřich Smetana was born Litomyšl east of Prague. His father was a violinist and little Bedřich was prodigious. He was enormously inspired by a series of concerts he attended by Liszt and devoted to musical study in Prague. He rose to great prominence among Czech nationalists and is remembered as one of the greatest composers of the region.
