Frédéric Chopin (1810-1849)
Bio
Chopin was born in the Duchy of Warsaw and grew up in the Polish capital. He was a prodigy and composed several works prior to leaving Poland at the age of 20 and settling in Paris. He was friends with Lizst and knew and interacted with Schumann, Alkan, and many other contemporaries. He is probably the most well-known pianist in history, one of the first music "celebrities," and a tragic figure owing to his death at only 39 years of age.
