Ernest Chausson (1855-1899)


Bio

A tragic figure, Chausson was a rising star in the French Romantic movement having studied at the Paris Conservatoire under Massenet. He was also influenced by Franck and Wagner and served as a sort of representative of French culture as the secretary of the Société Nationale de Musique. While in the role he interacted with scores of prominent artists including Debussy, Monet, Albéniz, Fauré, and many others. He died at the age of 44 in a bicycle accident, passing before his composing career really took shape.
