Listening Through The Dictionary of Composers and Their Music
Cécile Chaminade (1857-1944)
Bio
The first woman to ever earn the Légion d'Honneur for composing, Chaminade was a prodigy. She studied under Le Couppey, Savard, Marsick, and Godard despite her father forbidding her to enroll in the Conservatoire de Paris. At the age of 8, her first compositions were positively reviewed by Georges Bizet, and she traveled and composed to a generally warm reception between England and France most of her life.
