André Grétry (1741-1813)


Bio

Grétry was born in Liège in modern-day Belgium. He was a choir boy and studied under the organists at St-Pierre de Liège. He was greatly impressed by the operas of Galuppi and Pergolesi and studied under Casali in Rome. He composed nearly 70 operas and was among the leading musical figures of his day.
