André Messager (1853-1929)
Bio
André Charles Prosper Messager was born in central France. He studied church music under Loret, Gigout, Fauré, and Saint-Saëns. Messager succeeded Fauré as the choir organist at Saint-Suplice where Widor was the principal. He collaborated with many of his contemporaries including Chabrier, Massenet, and Debussy. He was a celebrated composer and conductor and was appointed a Commander of the Légion d'honneur.
