Otto Nicolai (1810-1849)
Bio
Carl Otto Ehrenfried Nicolai was born in Kӧnigsberg. His father was also a composer and taught him as a boy. He ran away and eventually reached Berlin where he studied with Carl Friedrich Zelter. He and Verdi were rivals in Italy and he was an important figure in Vienna for much of his life.
