Daniel Auber (1782-1871)

Bio

Frenchman who rose to prominence during Napoleon III's reign and is known as the bridge between Mozart and Offenbach in the realm of comic-Operas. Also wrote ballets, Piano overtures, and smaller orchestral works. Was the chancellor of the Paris Conservatory for 30+ years, his son will be the next composer on the list.

Juan de Arriaga (1806-1826)

Bio

The "Spanish Mozart" Juan Cristóstomo de Arriaga was born in 1806 in Biscay. He wrote an Opera at 14, several String Quartets at 17, and then died tragically at 19 from a lung ailment, possibly Tuberculosis. Posthumously several more pieces were published and he's widely regarded as an accomplished representative of his era and area.

Malcolm Arnold (1923-2006)

Bio

Another Brit, Arnold, CBE, was the first-chair trumpet for the London Philharmonic throughout the 30s and 40s with a brief intermission while he fought in WWII. Along the way, he composed 8 Symphonies and scores of other classical forms as a strong representative of the Neo-Classical school.
