George Antheil (1900-1959)

Bio

First American on the list, his memoir is titled Bad Boy of Music. He studied in Philadelphia in the 20s and then moved to Berlin and Paris doing a great deal of classical Jazz composing. He wrote 6 Symphonies, several Operas and Concertos, and some film scores.

William Alwyn (1905-1985)

Bio

Brit William Alwyn wrote 5 Symphonies, a great number of other classical works, some film music, and was a piano arranger who introduced many of the great classics to England via the radio. He was chairman of the Composers' Guild and was trained at the Royal Society of the Arts.
